MEDICAL EMERGENCY
If a medical emergency happens on campus that seems serious (e.g. the person has lost consciousness, is bleeding, has broken bones, or has a serious condition of any kind) call 911 first. When in doubt, call 911. Be sure to give the CVA building address to the 911 operator - they cannot tell where the call is coming from.

After calling 911, then call Shawn Leko during daytime hours, or the CVA Security Guard evenings and weekends. Shawn and the guards are trained in first aid and can give assistance until the St. Paul EMT personnel arrive. You may have to stay on the line on the 911 call, so have someone else call the guard if you need to stay on the line.

If a medical problem arises that requires first aid but not a 911 call, call Shawn Leko during the day, or the CVA Security Guard evenings and weekends to give first aid assistance. First Aid kits are located throughout the campus - consult the evacuation map near your location to find the closest First Aid kit.

MENTAL HEALTH
If a mental health emergency situation arises, follow the instructions above and call 911 and the CVA Security Guard if the person's behavior poses any risk of harm to him or herself or anyone else. If a person is in distress by not in danger, refer the person to any of the following resources for immediate help:

First Call for Help 211
Walk-In Counseling Center 612.870.0565
   2421 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis
Afternoon and evening walk-in hours available
Minneapolis/St. Paul 24 Hour Crisis Counseling 612.379.6363
Regions Hospital Emergency Crisis Center 651.254.1000

Also, notify Shawn Leko, 612.961.4055 and the Director for Student Life, 651.757.4049, who will follow up as soon as possible. CVA has a special referral relationship with a psychologist to whom students can be referred by the Director for Student Life for counseling assistance.

FIRE
In the event of fire, set off the building fire alarm to warn others, and then call 911 and Shawn Leko during daytime hours, or the Security Guard on evenings and weekends. If you have a cell phone, use it to make those calls outside after you have left the building.

SEVERE WEATHER
If there is a tornado warning, CVA staff will receive notice on the weather radio located in the main office. Everyone will be instructed to go to the basement or the nearest weather shelter location.
