germany exchange program

In tandem with Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst (HAWK)—an applied arts and design school in Hildesheim, Germany—CVA offers a student exchange program. HAWK offers graphic design, printmaking, and photography courses similar to CVA classes and adds a global perspective from within the heart of Europe.

Participating students will continue to pay full-time tuition at CVA and will be enrolled here while taking a German student's position at Hildesheim. They will also trade living arrangements. Additional out of pocket expenses should be limited to airfare and the cost of any travel one might take advantage of while in Europe. In most cases this exchange should not extend a student's anticipated graduation date. German language skills are strongly encouraged, but not required.

To qualify for this year-long exchange, students are required to have successfully completed their first year foundation program and currently be sophomores or juniors. In addition, interested students must meet with the department chair within their chosen area of concentration. If approved, students need to prepare a one-page written document explaining why they want to participate in this exchange. Include the following information:

  • Name, address, telephone number, and email
  • Major and confirmation of department chair consent
  • Cumulative GPA (must be 3.0 or higher)
  • Living arrangements you plan on providing your exchange partner. Housing must be within walking distance of CVA.
  • German language skills

This application should be placed in John DuFresne's mailbox, or emailed before December 16. For more information contact John at 651.757.4028.
