The mission of the CVA Perspectives in Fine Art Series is to enhance the understanding and appreciation of nationally recognized contemporary fine art through exhibition for students and audiences of all levels of awareness and understanding.

Generation Abstraction: Selections from the Minnesota Museum of American Art

Mining the rich collection of the Minnesota Museum of American Art in St. Paul, the exhibition probed the question of what makes the abstract image continue to speak to our imaginations, our experiences, and our emotions. This exhibition, which ran March 11 – 2 8, 2010, investigated the mid-century American impulse to make art out of pure color, line, gesture, material, and surface. Starting with Abstract Expressionism in the 1950s through Minimalist forms in the 1970s, the exhibition showcased a variety of responses to modernist abstraction with important paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by such noted artists as George Morrison, Joan Brown, Kenneth Noland, and Eugene Larkin. A National Exhibition of Selected Photographs and Sculptures from the Collections of Gary and JoAnn Fink and their Museum Louvre It Or Leave It

In an exhibition which ran March 5 – April 4, 2009, over twenty-two sculptures and photographs were featured from the private collections of Gary and JoAnn Fink and their Museum Louvre It Or Leave. The exhibition included exceptional works by eighteen artists including Deborah Butterfield, Viola Frey, Luis Gonzalez Palma, Annie Liebovitz, Sebastiao Salgado, Alec Soth, and Doug and Mike Starn. A catalog was published with a Forward by Martin Weinstein of Weinstein Gallery and an essay by Lyndel King, Director of the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum. Read more.

Revision, Reiteration, Recombination: Process and the Contemporary Print

The inaugural exhibition of the Perspectives Series was held March 6 – April 5, 2008. This print exhibition, curated by nationally recognized New York painter Leslie Wayne, included work of internationally recognized painters and sculptors. This print exhibition explored the work of artists outside their primary medium. Exhibiting artists included Louise Bourgeois, Lesley Dill, Thomas Nozkowski, Martin Puryear, and David Shapiro.
