This biennial Illustration exhibition that celebrates the unique and inventive work of 25 select Minnesota illustrators. Each participating illustrator will exhibit a printed illustration accompanied by its original artwork, an additional original artwork of their choice, and a Moleskine with a cover individually decorated by the illustrator. These unique one-of-a-kind decorated Moleskines will be sold in a silent auction during the exhibition reception. Walking: The New Forests of Thoreau’s America is part of the Portals on Western installation program and deals with the transformation of the myth of the North American landscape since Thoreau wrote the essay “Walking.” The work seeks to explore and challenge established cultural, historical, and personal mythologies we have about our natural world that are frequently based on ideas of ownership and dominion, and create a new context where our relationship to nature and understanding of power, control, and interaction in that relationship can be re-evaluated.
