Alumnus David B. Jang’99 is part of Selected Works, a three-person exhibition at the Lois Lambert Gallery in Santa Monica, California from July 16 through September 4, 2011. Jang uses the leftover excess from the mass-production of our consumer society as the source of material for his sculptural paintings. Aluminum cans, water bottles, and packaging materials are deconstructed and flattened into spiraling growth patterns that describe the literal and figurative movement of recycling. He uses grinders, torches, and power tools to manipulate these three-dimensional forms into two dimensions.
