Event Description: Sheila will discuss the relationship between "femi-primitivism", women artists attraction to nature fused art practice, and Irish post-colonialism, the challenge to the historic portrayal of the Irish as primitive to English civilized culture. My discussion will focus on the work of three successfull Irish women artists whose often daring work refuses the nostalgia and easy identification with nature and native culture that can be the result of familiar associations.
