Larry Millett Historic Walking Tours at College of Visual Arts in St. Paul
Writer and historian Larry Millett, author of AIA Guide to the Twin Cities: The Essential Source on the Architecture of Minneapolis and St. Paul, will lead three walking tours this summer. The summer tours will highlight three distinct areas of Saint Paul; Lowertown, Rice Park, and Irvine Park.

June 12 - Lowertown
This historic downtown St. Paul neighborhood was once one of the largest warehousing and railroad centers in the Midwest.  The neighborhood includes St. Paul Union Depot (1923) as well as numerous buildings designed by Cass Gilbert, Clarence Johnston and other leading St. Paul architects.

June 19 - Rice Park
Many of downtown St. Paul's finest buildings are clustered around Rice Park, platted in 1849.  Landmark Center (1892, 1902), the St. Paul Hotel (1910), the St. Paul Public Library-Hill Reference Library (1917), the Hamm Building (1920) and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts (1985) are among the monuments you'll see on this tour.

June 26 - Irvine Park
This historic St. Paul neighborhood, built around a New England-style park laid out in 1849, is located just  west of downtown and includes many of the city's oldest homes, some dating back to 1850.  Among  the homes you'll see are the Wright-Prendergast House (1851), the Alexander Ramsey House (1872) and the Dr. Justus Ohage House (1889).

Cost: $50

iMovie Photo Montage:
An Introduction to the Essentials of Media Technology for Art Educators

June 23 - 27, 2008
Monday - Friday
8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Don't let your students get ahead of you! Use the computer as your canvas as you learn the basics of iMovie. Work with found video footage and audio, or bring your own to create a non-objective time-based artwork. Earn either CEUs or graduate credit.

The course will focus on the development of digital video editing and production skills in addition to the understanding of the elements and principles that are inherent in media arts. Through the manipulation of digital video and importation of graphics and sound, students will be able to learn both the fundamentals of video editing as well as the application of higher levels of aesthetic treatment using the editing tools at hand. Handouts, class demonstrations, and sharing of projects at various stages, will be the primary instruction tools employed. A final project to be done outside of class consisting of the development of a lesson plan that incorporates the skills being employed will be required for earning graduate credit. The course will be conducted in a Mac lab and will combine work with both iMovie and Adobe Photoshop programs.
